How to use Ledger with Terracoin
A Ledger Nano S is a hardware wallet. Hardware wallets are considered very secure for the storage of a user’s private keys in the blockchain world. Your digital assets are safe even when using an infected (or untrusted) PC.
Install the Terracoin app on your Ledger device to manage TRC with the Terracoin Electrum. The Terracoin app is developed and supported by TRCf.
Before you start
- You have initialized your Ledger device.
- Update the firmware on your Ledger device.
- Ledger Live is ready to use.
- Install the Bitcoin app, as Terracoin requires it.
Instructions
- Open the Manager in Ledger Live.
- Connect and unlock your Ledger device.
- If asked, allow the manager on your device by pressing the right button.
- Find Terracoin in the app catalog.
- Click the Install button of the app.
- An installation window appears.
- Your device will display Processing…
- The app installation is confirmed.
Use Ledger device with Terracoin Electrum
- Open Terracoin Electrum.
- Connect and unlock your device.
- Select the Terracoin app and start it.
- Create new wallet, select Hardware Wallet, or select the wallet and open.
Configure public key exports
The Terracoin app can export your extended public key (xpub) to web apps in a U2F compatible web browser (Chrome, Opera or Firefox). The xpub is privacy-sensitive information, as all public addresses can be generated from it.
Public key exports by default require manual approval on the device to prevent inadvertent sharing of your public addresses. This setting can be configured as follows:
- Open the Terracoin app.
- Navigate to Settings > Public key export approval.
- Choose one of two options:
- Manual approval (default): public key exports require a confirmation on the device.
- Auto approval: public key exports are automatically approved.
Terracoin address formats
Terracoin addresses start with an 1, just like bitcoin.
Address privacy
Terracoin transactions are public information. Do not re-use your addresses for optimal privacy. Terracoin Electrum automatically generates new addresses and keeps track of your previous ones. Previous addresses do remain valid, but they don't offer an optimal level of privacy.
